Other Soft Tissue Injuries
Contusion
- Minor acute soft tissue injuries (such as contusions) are the most common injuries in the adolescent athletic population.
- In rare cases of severe contusion, concomitant intramuscular hemorrhage may occur and can result in prolonged pain, spasm, and limited range of motion. More significantly, such intramuscular hemorrhage may result in post-traumatic myositis ossifians.
Hip Pointer

The term “hip pointer” has been used to describe a contusion to the iliac crest with resulting subperiosteal hematoma formation and disability. It is important to remember that acute fracture of the iliac crest or avulsion fracture of the apophysis may mimic a hip pointer.
