Manual Muscle Testing

Manual muscle testing should be completed to assess for muscle weakness. It is recommended to not use traditional manual muscle testing until approximately age 8 for children. Before that age physical therapists should use functional muscle testing such as pull to stand to assess muscle strength. While this method is not an objective measurement it at least gives a general idea of muscle strength for the child.
