- Orthopedic disorders are common among children with Down Syndrome. One of the more common orthopedic disorder is hip dislocation.
- Joint laxity and hypotonia are the main culprits of hip dislocation in these children.
- Hip dislocation is rleativley uncommon and occurs in about 10% of the DS population.
- Generalized joint laxity being the main contributing factor and occured in 65 out of 85 (76.4%) children wiht DS. For a diagnosis of generalized joint laxity joints should be involved bilaterally and affect both the upper and lower extremities.
