Osteoid Osteoma
Image 42
An osteoid osteoma is a benign bone tumor that is most commonly seen in the femur or tibia prior to adolescence.
- Pain is worse at night and responds dramatically to aspirin.
- Failure to respond to aspirin usually rules out the diagnosis.
- May require CT scan or bone scan to demonstrate: a central nidus is seen in 75% of patients with an osteoid osteoma
- These require surgical removal so a referral is a must
